Delray Beach man falls victim to credit card fraud

Carl Conrad, 81 | 22 de octubre de 2016

Carl Conrad, 81, said a woman called him on Sept. 29 and told him that she was from Chase Bank. “She said there were some fraudulent charges on my account,” Conrad said. He said the woman asked him if he had a chip on his debit card and where it was located. Conrad said she later told him that the chip was the wrong color and in the wrong place.“She then told me that she was going to send a bank representative to my apartment to get the debit card and they would order a new one for me,” Conrad said. Conrad said a black man, described as 6 feet, 3 inches to 6 feet, 5 inches tall, with a “football player” build, showed up at his door, said he was with Chase Bank and showed his ID. Conrad said he handed over his debit card. He said that after the man left, he got a bad feeling about it and called his bank. Conrad said he noticed two fraudulent withdrawals from his account on the same day. One was made at an ATM for $2,120 and the other for $46. Conrad said he worked with the bank’s fraud unit to get his money back. The thieves have not been caught. Bank officials said they would never send someone to a customer’s home to pick up a credit or debit card. A Boynton Beach woman said she was the victim of a similar crime, but it was a woman who came to her home to pick up two of her credit cards. She said she later learned that the thief withdrew $9,900 from her accounts.
