Villa scores on return from injury as New York City holds Atlanta to 2-2 draw

USA SOCCER | 16 de abril de 2018

Atlanta, USA, Apr 15 (efe-epa).- Spanish international David Villa scored a goal on his return from injury to help New York City hold Atlanta United to a 2-2 draw on Sunday in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer.

New York showed why they are leading the conference, demonstrating their resilience by twice coming back away from home to equalize.

Greg Garza scored the first goal of the match for Atlanta in the 29th minute on a rebound after City keeper Sean Johnson spilled a Miguel Almiron shot.

Villa came on in the 35th minute, having been out of action due to a muscular injury, and converted a penalty soon after to take the score to 1-1.

In the second half, Atlanta went ahead in the 57th minute through a goal by Chris McCann, but New York's Finnish midfielder Alexander Ring silenced the Mercedes Benz stadium with a 73rd minute equalizer.

The match saw Argentine teenager Ezequiel Barco, the most expensive player in MLS history, in action for the first time when he came on in the 70th minute.

The draw means New York City remain undefeated this season; they lead the Eastern Conference table with 17 points with a record of 5-2-0, while Atlanta are second with 13 points (4-1-1).
