MEXICO BOXING | 13 de marzo de 2018

Tijuana, Mexico, Mar 12 (efe-epa) .- Cuban boxer Joahnys Argilagos, two-time world champion in the light flyweight amateur boxing, did not show up for the weigh-in in the elimination round of the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Tijuana, sources close to the organizing committee revealed Monday.

The sources close to the event's organizing committee announced that the 21-year-old boxer was absent from the weigh-in process on Monday.

Prior to the current tournament, Argilagos won bronze in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, a silver in the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto, and achieved two world champion titles from the AIBA American Confederation Boxing Championships in 2015 and 2017.

Argilagos, originally from the city of Camaguey, started boxing at the age of 10 and later at 16 he became known as a highly-skilled boxer by winning the 2013 AIBA Junior World Championships.

According to the sources, the most probable reason for his absence was that he might be trying to enter the United States in search of residency and hoping to start a professional boxing career there.
